Sponsored by:

PA Department of Human Services, Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services

Date:  Monday, August 28, 2017

Time:  1pm-3pm

The Office of Mental Health Services OMHSAS will be providing a Family Peer Certification curriculum overview that Pennsylvania will be utilizing in the future.  The overview will be provided by Millie Sweeney, Project Coordinator from the Family-Run Executive Director Leadership Association (FREDLA).

This orientation session will provide an overview of FREDLA’s Parent Peer Support Practice Model.  This includes the training for Parent Peer Support Providers, Training for Supervisors, and Train the Trainer and Coaching.  FREDLA PPS Practice Model provides a framework for the essential functions of a Parent Peer Support Provider, offering core competency training and practicing of skills across the 6 phases of parent peer support: Connect, Discover, Support, Empower, Prepare and Take Care.  To facilitate the success of the PPSP workforce, the Practice Model includes training in effective supervision of the PPSP workforce and an optional Train the Trainer and coaching sustainability of the Practice Model.

There will be opportunities during the session for questions and dialogue with both the FREDLA trainer and state representatives about the training and roll out of parent peer support services in Pennsylvania.
